The boat (from the continent to the port of Le Palais)
To reach the island, take the boat from Port Maria, Quiberon (45 minutes).
During the high season, you can also take a passenger-only boat from Port Navalo (60 minutes), at the end of the Rhuys peninsula.
For more information on timetables, click here to access the website of the Compagnie Océane
For weekends in July and August, we advise you to book your crossing 6 months in advance.
By care from the port of Le Palais (9km)
- Head towards Locmaria on leaving Le Palais
- Pass the village of Bourhic
- At the Bornord sign (at the Taol Mor bus stop and ‘Pépinière de Julie’), turn right towards Bornord. When the road bends to the right (to the West), continue straight south along a small trail (<100 m) ... you'll come straight to the house!
There are several car rental services available ; the easiest is Locatourisle - just off the boat.
There are other possibilities. We advise you to book early during the high season (mid July/end August).
Other means of transport
By taxi or bus
Belle Ile does not have many taxis, so it is best to book ahead, certainly during the high season.
The bus Taol Mor runs during the high season; the bus stop is 400 m North of the house. Check the timetable on the Tourist Office website.

By bike
Belle Ile is ideal for cycling. It is possible to reach the house from the port of Le Palais for adults (9 km). Take the cycle paths and avoid the main road (see itinerary below). Several shops hire out classic or electric bikes, and scooters. Two are close the the arrival of the boat; some also offer to take care of your luggage if necessary. Check them out on Google (key words ‘bike hire belle ile en mer’).
There is also a bike rental shop ain the hamlet of Locmaria (20 min walking distance from the house across the fields).

We advise you to book in advance during the high season - certainly if you want to hire a bike for a week or more.

Biking distance
Hamlet of Locmaria (10 min)Place de la Mairie
- Small Supermarket
- Bakery ('dépôt de pain')
- Small market (Wednesday, with local fishing - but you have to get up early!)
Huitres Cochennec (local producer from Carnac): Thursdays to Sundays 10am to 2pm and 5pm to 7pm, next to the church in Locmaria - on the right as you go down to the sea/Port Maria (between the bar/tabac and the crêperie). Also available at Locmaria market on Wednesdays and Bangor market on Sundays. But this may change…
Hamlest de Bangor (25 min) - Place de la Mairie
- Small supermarket with 'dépôt de pain'
- VERY lively (and crowded during the high season) market (on Sunday morning).
By care
- Intermaché – on the road to Palais going north at the Bangor roundabout.
- Super U – on the road to Palais going north from the airport.
- Le coin des producteurs producteurs (in the Zoning de Mérezelle - on the road to Palais just after the Bangor roundabout) - only products from Belle Ile (including Pilou's cheeses). Opening times vary... but organic products have to be earned !
- If you like real organic products (not the ‘more expensive’ kind), don't hesitate to follow the signs either on the road to Bangor -- Intermarché or on the main road - before the Bangor roundabout coming from Locmaria: you'll come to the farm... very nice.
- Market every day at Palais, place Carnot (near the boat arrivals); crowded during the high season.

Walking distance
- Port Loskah. At the bottom of the path running alongside the garden - is a rocky ‘beach’ that is only accessible in calm weather (easter wind). It's great fun and an adventure for older children. Sea shoes are highly recommended to avoid foot injuries.
- Pouldon. About 2 km to the west, 20-25 minutes’ walk along the coastal trail or along little-used inland trails. Small beach of sand (very small with low tide), seaweed and pebbles, safe for small children. Swim between the rocks!
- Port Blanc. About 3 km along small trails. It is a beautiful white sandy beach, perfect for children but busy in season. If you're feeling sporty (± 90 minutes), take the coastal trail (Pointe du Skeul, then Pointe d'Arzic - unforgettable views !
By bike
- Les Grand Sables At 2,8 km to the North. It is a beautiful long white sandy beach. Please note that one must cross the departmental road which might be dangerous.
- Port Andro At ± 4 km to the north-east: a pretty beach with a small stream, wonderfull for children. But can be very crowded at low tide.
- Baluden At 15 min : a pretty little cove, but unsupervised and sometimes dangerous (currents).
- Herlin Large beach at Herlin - to the west of Baluden - is supervised in season.
- Port Gwenn A tiny beach - to the east of Baluden - is mainly pebbled and only frequented by a few regulars. An idyllic spot for a solitary swim…
